Syntax: CREATE DATABASE|SCHEMA [IF NOT EXISTS] <database name>
hive> CREATE DATABASE [IF NOT EXISTS] userdb;
# or
hive> CREATE SCHEMA userdb;

hive> SHOW DATABASES;
default
userdb
